Description
A pair of cottages, originally a single house, dating to the mid-17th century. The building was altered in the late 18th and early 19th centuries and subsequently divided into two cottages in the mid-to-late 19th century. It now exhibits a largely Regency style. The cottages have plastered walls and tiled roofs, with a shaped bargeboard to the right gable. There is a brick stack at the left end and another near the right end. Number 1, on the right, features a single-storey extension on the right side, which served as a former wash-house, and contains the entrance. The ground floor of the main house contains one casement window with lead lights and another with glazing bars. The first floor has a casement with lead lights and a 20th-century casement with glazing bars. A large open fireplace with a chamfered timber lintel is in the main ground floor room, alongside one exposed ceiling beam. The room to the right of this was originally a shop. Number 2 has a trellised porch with a concave roof and a G-panel door. Its ground floor has one 20th-century casement with glazing bars, while the first floor has two casements with lead lights. A 17th-century stone mullioned window is visible on the ground floor of the left gable wall, with another, built up, on the first floor of that wall. Remains of a mullioned window are visible in the rear wall, having been altered to form a door.
