Description
The gatehouse to No 32 and the wall on its east side date from the 18th century. It is constructed of hammer-dressed stone and features an old plain tile roof that is hipped at the east end. The gatehouse has a high, three-centred arched carriage entrance with planked double doors. The wall on its east side, which runs along the north of Rax Lane, is made of stock brick and includes one blocked gateway with a moulded stone surround. This gatehouse and wall are part of a group that includes Rax, the garden wall to Rax, the Grove, the garden wall to the Grove, No 32 and its outhouses, the gatehouse of No 32 and its wall, the outhouses to the south of Wykes Court Garden, as well as Nos 13, 15, 19, and 31 on the south side, Nos 17 and 19 Downes Street, Wykes Court, the Conservative Club and stables south of the Conservative Club, and North Street.
