Description
The garden wall along the west side of Wykes Court garden dates from the early to mid 19th century. It is constructed of red brick, featuring a hammer dressed plinth at one end, while the rest of the wall is made of rubble. At the south-west corner of the garden, there are two rusticated ashlar gate piers with spur stones. The north end of the wall has two ashlar piers topped with an ornamental iron overthrow. This wall, along with Wykes Court, the Conservative Club, and the former stables south of the Conservative Club, forms a group with several nearby structures, including Rax, the garden wall to Rax, The Grove, the garden wall to The Grove, No 32 and its outhouses, the gatehouse of No 32 and its wall, the outhouses to the south of Wykes Court garden, and Nos 13, 15, 19, and 31 on Rax Lane, as well as Nos 17 and 19 on Downes Street.
