Description

This farmhouse, located on the south side of the yard at Penhale, has origins dating from the late 17th century and was extended in the early to mid 19th century. It is constructed from stone rubble and features a slate roof with hipped ends and brick end stacks. The original layout likely consisted of two rooms with a through passage, heated by end stacks, and included a kitchen added in a wing to the rear left in the late 17th century or early 18th century. Alternatively, it may have originally been an overall 'L' shaped plan with the kitchen integrated into the main range. The farmhouse was further extended with a range to the rear right in the mid 19th century, likely replacing earlier service rooms.

The exterior is two storeys high with a symmetrical three-window front, showcasing 19th-century 16-pane hornless sashes. The central sash on the ground floor is set in an earlier blocked opening, which was probably the original entrance. The entrance is located in the left-hand side wall, with a 19th-century four-pane sash to the left on the ground floor and a double eight-pane sash on the first floor. Inside, the partitions and joinery from the 18th and 19th centuries remain intact.
