Description
Pound Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from around the mid-18th century, which was extended in the 19th century and altered in the 20th century. It features slatestone rubble walls and a hipped asbestos slate roof, with a rendered brick axial stack and a projecting rubble lateral stack at the side of the rear wing. The building has an L-shaped plan, with the front range being the original section that was formerly designed with a four-room layout and a baffle entrance in front of the central axial stack, which heats the rooms on either side. Beyond these two rooms, there were originally narrow outer service rooms at each end, although the partitions have since been removed. At the right-hand end, there is a 19th-century wing that was likely added as a kitchen.
The exterior is two storeys high, with a symmetrical two-window front and three windows below. The first-floor windows are 18th-century horizontal sliding sashes, while the ground floor features 20-pane 19th-century sashes below. There is a very small light at the right-hand end, and the two main ground floor windows have dressed stone voussoirs above them. A 19th-century plank door is located at the centre, sheltered by a slate hood, with the wing extending behind the right-hand end.
Inside, there are few original features remaining. The open fireplaces may not be in their original form; the left-hand fireplace has a low slate slab lintel, while the other has dressed stone jambs and a cambered wooden lintel.
