Description
This building is a barn, stables, and cattle shed located immediately to the west of Pound Farmhouse. It dates from the mid-18th century, with some 19th-century additions. The structure features slatestone rubble walls and a gable-ended slate roof with stone coping on the central barn range, while the lower wing has a corrugated asbestos roof. The layout is U-shaped, with the original barn at the center, which includes a threshing barn on the first floor and shippons and a root store below. Attached to the right side is a two-storey 19th-century bullock shed, and to the left is a 19th-century stable.
The exterior of the barn is two storeys high and has a symmetrical front with a wide opening at the center on each floor; the lower opening was enlarged in the 20th century. Flanking this central opening are two narrower doorways, each with dressed stone voussoir arches above. The bullock shed has seven doorways on the ground floor and a central loading hatch above, flanked by windows. The stable wing features a central doorway and slatted windows on either side, along with an inserted window on the first floor and pigeon holes in the gable end. The interiors are relatively plain, although the stable retains some evidence of the stalls.
