Description
This building is a barn, cow shed, stable, and attached cart shed located about 20 yards south of Oldhay Farmhouse. It likely dates from the 18th century and was extended in the 19th century. The structure is made of rubble and timber framing, topped with a corrugated iron roof. It has an L-shaped plan, with the extended barn forming one wing and the cart shed the other, which hinges on the stable. The building is one storey with an attic and consists of 7 bays for the barn and 3 bays for the cart shed. There are opposed entrance doors made of corrugated iron to the third bay from the right, two ledged doors to the cow house on the left of center, and a ledged door to the stables on the left side. The cart shed is divided into three bays by two rubble pillars at the entrance front, with two additional rubble piers behind them marking the area under the catslide roof; the end wall is also made of rubble. Inside, the original three-bay threshing barn has a floor in the center bay and features V-struts and tension braces. The right-hand bay, which is smaller and appears to be from the 19th century, is weatherboarded. The cow shed area consists of two bays with similar trusses to the barn but built on rubble walls that are three panels high. The corner stable area is not bonded with the cow house but was likely added soon after. This building forms a large agricultural group with the nearby Oldhay Farmhouse and cow shelter, which together enclose two sides of the farmyard.
