Description
Clothier Farmhouse is a farmhouse that likely dates from the 17th century, with extensions added in the 18th century and around 1950. The building is constructed of rubble and roughcast, topped with a slate roof that features end stacks on the left and at the rear extension. It has a two-cell plan and is one storey high with an attic, displaying two windows with irregular spacing. On the left, there are 19th-century two-light casements, while the gabled dormers contain two metal 20th-century casements. The entrance is through a glazed 20th-century door located beneath the right-hand dormer. To the right, there is a stable or cow house extension, likely from the 18th century, which has a ledged 19th-century door at the front and a pitching hole in the gable end. The left side features a 1950 extension, and there is an 18th-century single-storey extension at the rear that includes an external end stack with a decorated brick shaft. Inside, a plank and muntin screen separates the two cells, with the principal room on the left containing a large fireplace supported by a massive oak lintel and a newel rubble stair to the left of the fireplace. Another longitudinal plank and muntin screen divides the other cell into two unequal rooms. The upper rooms are separated by a truss with a collar, which is supported by two vertical posts that frame a doorway. The 18th-century rear extension has a low raking strut truss.
