Description
Treyhill Farmhouse is a farmhouse that likely dates from the late 18th century and was extended in the late 19th century, although it may include earlier elements. The building is constructed of rendered stone and rubble, topped with a slate roof and featuring brick stacks at each end. Originally, the farmhouse appears to have had a three-room layout with a through-passage, but the hall/inner partition has been removed. There is a winder staircase located at the rear of the hall, along with an integral two-storey outshut at the back. It is possible that the main range, which has three storeys, was built as a single phase following the traditional Devon farmhouse plan, as there is no exposed fabric to indicate otherwise.
A dairy block was added to the right end, and an additional bay was added to the left end in the late 19th century. The farmhouse features a three-window range across its three storeys, with four-over-eight paned sashes on the upper storey, including a blind window opening at the right end. The lower two storeys have 16 paned horned sashes with slightly cambered heads. There is a slated gabled porch with moulded bargeboards leading to an off-centre doorway. The bay addition at the left end has a single sash window above two sashes, all of which are 12-paned and topped with a half-hipped slate roof. The late 18th and 19th century joinery remains intact, including several two-panelled doors with original hinges.
