Description
The Lower Lodge at the west entrance to Pencarrow is a lodge built around the mid-19th century for Pencarrow House. It is constructed from stone rubble and features a slate roof with half-hipped ends. The building has a rendered axial stack and a projecting stone rubble end stack on the left, although the shaft of the latter has been removed.
The lodge has an overall 'T' shaped plan, with the entrance located at the angle of the main range and the front wing. It is two stories high and has an asymmetrical front with a single window that includes diamond leaded lights in the casements. The windows are set under segmental dressed stone arches. The front projecting wing, positioned near the center, has a half-hipped end with a three-light casement on the ground floor and a two-light casement above. The entrance is located in the angle with the main range on the left and features a 19th-century lean-to porch with a studded door. To the right of the front wing, there is a three-light casement window in the main range. The interior has not been inspected.
