Description
The pair of lodges at the south entrance to the drive of Pencarrow were built around the 1840s. They are constructed from snecked ashlar slatestone on a stone rubble plinth. Each lodge has an overall octagonal shape, featuring a canted slate roof with a central granite stack. The lodges are divided into two rooms that are heated by a central fireplace. The southwest lodge includes a kitchen located in a cellar, which can be accessed externally from the southwest and internally via a narrow staircase.
These single-storey lodges have canted sides and slate roofs with deep eaves that extend outward and are supported by timber posts, creating a verandah. The window openings have been altered and now feature mid-20th century two-light casements. There are two entrance doors located in shallow projecting mid-19th century porches with shouldered arches, and these doors are the original diagonally braced plank doors. An extension from the 20th century has been added to the north side of the southwest porch.
The granite stack on the northeast lodge has a moulded cornice that is supported by corbelled brackets, while the stack on the southwest lodge is partially disintegrated. Inside the southwest lodge, there is a 20th-century chimney-piece.
