Description
Maryland Cottages is a row of four estate cottages built around the mid to late 19th century. They are constructed from stone rubble with dressed stone arches above the openings and feature a slate roof with gable ends. The cottages have brick stacks at the rear.
The layout consists of four cottages, each with a double depth plan, heated by the rear lateral stacks. The two central cottages are mirror images of each other and have front entrances, while the outer cottages have side entrances.
The exterior is two stories high with a symmetrical six-window front, showcasing dressed stone flat arches over the openings. A central stone rubble pier divides the central pair of cottages, while the outer cottages are set at right angles, with their front and rear walls slightly forward and gable ends. The central cottages each feature 20th-century stone rubble porches with hipped ends, flanked by a 16-pane sash window and a 4-pane casement on the ground floor, with two 16-pane sashes above. The outer cottages have 16-pane sashes on both the ground and first floors. There are also 20th-century extensions of one-room plan at the rear. The interior has not been inspected.
