Description

Ivy Cottage is a house with an attached outbuilding, dating from around 1821. It is constructed of slate stone rubble, with a slate roof, gable ends, and brick end stacks. The plan is a double-depth layout, with a central entrance leading to two larger reception rooms at the front, heated by end stacks. A kitchen is located at the rear right, with a dairy to the rear left; both heated by separate end stacks. An outbuilding, dating from the mid-19th century, is attached to the right-hand gable end.

The two-storey front has a regular three-window arrangement, with brick flat arches over the openings. Early 19th-century 16-pane hornless sash windows flank a 20th-century panelled front door. Above are two 20th-century four-pane sashes and an early 19th-century 16-pane sash to the right. The rear has 19th-century sashes and casements. The attached outbuilding is of one storey and a loft, with plank doors on the ground floor featuring designed wrought iron hinges, and a plank door to the loft in the gable end.

Inside, partitions are original. The back kitchen has plaster ceilings and exposed 19th-century floor joists.
