Description
The grotto and surrounding rock garden, located to the southeast of Pencarrow House, date from around the 1840s and were designed by Sir William Molesworth. The rock garden is primarily made of large granite boulders, while the grotto is built from granite, slatestone, quartz, and slag. The rock garden has an irregular layout on the east side of the terraced lawns, adjacent to Pencarrow House. The grotto features a roughly semi-circular cave with walls made from a mix of different stones.
