Description

The barn located approximately 15 metres south of Gwavas Farmhouse, which includes adjoining gate-piers, dates from around the mid-19th century. It is constructed from granite rubble with granite dressings and features a grouted scantle slate L-plan hipped roof. The lower section has a weatherboarded gable end for the cartshed. The building has an L-shaped plan that likely served as a granary and fodder store above shippons and stables, with a later 19th-century open-ended cartshed attached to the front of the right arm of the L.

The barn is two storeys high. The longer section has two windows on the east-north-east front, with a shorter wing projecting at right angles from the right side. It features old ledged doors and window shutters. The ground floor has an original doorway beneath the middle window, a later window to its left, and a blocked later opening to its right. The left-hand wall of the wing has original openings, including a louvered window on the left, an old shuttered window above, and a doorway on the right. The other elevations remain unaltered, retaining their original openings, including thin ventilators on the right-hand wall and rear. Towards the rear of the right-hand wall, there is a wide doorway with a window above it, featuring an original horizontal sliding sash with vertical glazing bars and random panes of glass.

The interior has not been inspected. At the rear right, there is a wide gateway with round-headed granite monolithic piers and a 19th-century brace wrought iron gate.
