Description

Hurdon Farmhouse is a farmhouse built in the mid to late 19th century. It is constructed from slatestone rubble with brick dressings and has a dry Delabole slate hipped roof with projecting eaves. The building features two brick axial stacks and has a double-depth plan with a dairy wing at the rear. It is two storeys high and has a symmetrical front with three windows. The original horned sash windows, which have glazing bars, are topped with segmental arches. There is a central glazed porch with lattice panes and a panelled and glazed door that has margin panes and similar lights on the returns.

Inside, original features include an open-well staircase with open-string stick balusters and a handrail that is scrolled over the newel. The large kitchen fireplace has a very large hearth with original and collected furniture, as well as a smaller hearth on the left for a former range. The dairy contains the original pump and trough.
