Description

Scarne Farm Buildings and attached outbuildings are a late 18th-century farmhouse located on Hurdon Road in Launceston. The front of the farmhouse features roughcast render on rubble, with slate hanging on the left-hand side and painted rubble on the rest. The building has hipped rag slate roofs and rendered end stacks, with the right-hand stack being gabled. There is also a brick axial stack on the right wing. The structure has an L-shaped plan, with stair and service outshuts in the rear angle and extensions at either arm of the L. It stands two storeys high and has a symmetrical three-window front, along with a single-storey two-window range wing on the right. The original windows are tripartite hornless sashes with glazing bars, and there is a central six-panel door leading to an early 20th-century glazed porch with coloured margin panes. The rear of the building features an original six-panel rear door within a porch created by the projection of the outshut, as well as various old doors and two-light casements on the rear extension. Inside, the structure is likely to be largely intact, with the best feature being the 18th-century dog-leg chinoiserie stair.
