Description

This building is an outbuilding located to the northwest of Penlayree, dating from the early 19th century. It serves as a stable, dairy, and washhouse. Constructed from granite rubble with granite dressings, it features a monopitch roof covered with slurried scantle slate and has a brick stack positioned at the rear right corner.

The layout consists of three rooms: the stable on the left, the dairy in the middle, and the washhouse on the right. The stable has a doorway at the front, while the east front has two windows and three doorways, with the stable doorway on the left and the other two doorways situated fairly close together, each with a window on either side. The building retains its original hornless 12-pane sash windows and ledged doors.

Inside, the outbuilding is virtually unaltered, featuring original slate shelves in the dairy and copper and other fittings in the washhouse. The stable includes a high ventilator window in the rear wall.
