Description

Bede House is a farmhouse dating to the early 19th century. It is constructed of killas and granite rubble with granite dressings. The roof is covered in slurried scantle slate, with brick chimneys on the gable ends and cast-iron ogee gutters. The original plan was a double-depth layout, likely with two similar front rooms, a central cross passage leading to a central staircase, and a back door into a service room to the rear right-hand side. The front facade is symmetrical, featuring a three-window arrangement with a central doorway. The doorway currently has a 20th-century door and windows are replacements in the original openings. The rear elevation, facing the road, retains original 16-pane hornless sash windows, and a central round-headed stair window with a fanlight sash. Inside, much of the original carpentry and joinery remains, although the staircase is later.
