Description

House. Built around the late 18th century, with some alterations around the early 20th century. The house is constructed of granite ashlar with a steep, grouted scantle slate roof and brick chimneys to the gable ends. It has hipped roof dormers to the front and rear, as well as crested clay ridge tiles.

The house follows a double-depth plan with a central cross passage leading to a rear staircase. The plan includes two rooms at the front; a slightly deeper room to the left with a kitchen behind, and a shallow parlour to the right with two small rooms behind.

The south front is symmetrical with three windows and a central doorway. It features a six-panel door and, on the ground floor, circa early 20th century five-light canted bays to the left and right, with six-pane horned sashes to the first floor in original openings. A central window to each floor, plus the attic, is positioned in the right-hand gable end.

Internally, there are some features dating to around 1900, but the house largely retains original carpentry and joinery, including the floors and roof structure. The kitchen has granite flags, and an original dog-leg staircase rises to the attic. The right-hand front chamber has an original fireplace with a dentilled cornice.
