Description
The building is a Post Office, now functioning as a sorting office, dated 1899 as indicated in the pediment. It is constructed from snecked squared sandstone with granite dressings and has a slate roof. The plan has been altered.
The structure is two storeys high and features three unequal bays, which are defined by pilasters and arranged symmetrically. It has banded rock-faced pilasters, with those at the corners topped with miniature pediments. There is a broad band between the floors, a string course above the first floor, and a pediment over the central bay. The wider central bay contains coupled two-light casement windows with pilaster jambs and stilted segmental heads. The band displays raised lettering that reads "POST OFFICE." Above, there is a tripartite window on the first floor, featuring a two-light centre and sashes without glazing bars. The pediment includes a datestone with raised lettering "1899" and a finial at the apex.
The outer bays have wide doorways that match the style of the ground-floor windows, featuring panelled double doors and overlights, with four-pane sashed windows above. The interior has been altered. Note that No. 17 to the right, which now houses the Post Office sales counter, is not included in this listing.
