Description
Hillside is a house dating from around the mid-18th century, located on the north side of Duke Street in Padstow. The building is constructed of stone rubble, with some parts of the front elevation rebuilt and sections that are slate hung. It features a slate roof with gable ends, a brick end stack on the right, and a truncated end stack on the left.
The house has a double depth plan, with the entrance situated near the center. There are two principal rooms at the front, both heated by the end stacks, and two shallow service rooms at the rear within an integral outshot that has a catslide roof.
The exterior is two stories high and has a regular three-window front. The masonry has been partly rebuilt in the 20th century. The front is partly slate hung with local rag slates. On the left, there is a renewed 20-pane sash window from the 20th century. To the right, there is a 20th-century door and a 16-pane sash window. On the first floor, there are three renewed 16-pane sashes, also from the 20th century. The interior has not been inspected.
