Description
Nos. 21, 23, and 25 Duke Street are three houses that may have originally been one large house. They likely date back to the 17th century but were remodeled in the 19th century and divided into three separate homes. The exterior is made of rendered and painted stone rubble, topped with an asbestos slate roof featuring gable ends, early crested ridge tiles, and a moulded eaves cornice. There is a brick front lateral stack.
The houses are two storeys tall with an asymmetrical four-window front, and the ground slopes down to the left. The first floor has complete early 19th century 12-pane sash windows. No. 21, on the left, features a possibly 19th century 4-pane sash window and a 19th century door with two sashes above. Nos. 23 and 25 share a front entrance opening, each with separate doors set back within. Both have a 4-pane sash window on the ground floor and a 12-pane sash window above.
The interior was not accessible for inspection, but an interior examination could reveal several interesting features and provide insight into the development of the plan.
