Description

Courtenay House is a house dating from around the mid-19th century, with a rear extension added in the late 19th or early 20th century. It is constructed of painted stone rubble, with parts of the side elevations covered in slate hung on a timber frame. The roof is slate and hipped at the ends. There are brick chimney stacks, one at the front and another towards the rear.

The house originally had a single-depth, two-room plan with a lobby entrance, later extended to the rear with a one-room wing. The ground level rises to the right. The central entrance to Barry’s Lane is framed by a pointed, two-centred arch and has steps leading to a 19th-century door with blind intersecting tracery. Casement windows from the 19th century are present on both the ground and first floors of the right-hand side elevation, and two similar casements are on the ground and first floors of the left-hand side elevation. The interior remains uninspected.
