Description

This is a group of five tombchests located 6 to 12 meters south of the chancel of the Church of St. Michael. They date from 1728 to 1813 and commemorate members of the Kent family and John Proffit. From north to south, the tombchests are in memory of Mary Kent (1728), John Kent (1813), Philip Kent, Yeoman (1755) and his daughter Joana (1748), son Philip (1763), daughter Alice Robins (1765), and sister Ann (1803); Philip Kent (1783) and his wife Mary (1788); and John Proffit of Cockmoyles (1800) and his wife Ann (1789). The tombchests are made of slate and stone rubble, featuring rectangular shapes with rectangular slate lids. The inscriptions are presented in upper and lower case lettering with serifs.
