Description
This is a group of five tombchests located 10 to 18 metres south of the south transept of the Church of St Materiana in Tintagel. The tombchests date from 1732 to 1865 and include those of Joan Pearce (1862), Joseph Rounsevell (1863), and Thomas Bishop (1865). They are made of slate stone rubble and feature rectangular moulded slate lids. The tombchests are arranged in pairs and are surrounded by a moulded granite curb. One tombchest belongs to Marshall, who died in 1777, and is also made of stone rubble with a rectangular slate lid that has an inscription in cursive script. Another tombchest, dating from 1732, is made of stone rubble with a rectangular slate lid, inscribed in italic script with a marginal inscription and a verse in the central panel. The tombchest of Pascho Fuge, who likely died in 1817, and his wife Elizabeth, who died in 1831, is also made of stone rubble with a rectangular slate lid.
