Description
The Tintagel Cross War Memorial is an early 20th-century war memorial made of roughly-dressed granite. It features a Celtic cross that stands on a tapered square plinth, which is set on a square base. On the east face of the column, there is a relief carving of a sword, with an inscription in black metal lettering below it that reads:
"REMEMBER / THESE MEN / OF / TINTAGEL / WHO DIED WHILST / SERVING / THEIR KING / AND / COUNTRY / IN THE / GREAT WAR / 1914 – 1919."
The names of thirty-three men who lost their lives in World War I are listed on the stone plinth below. On the west face of the column, another inscription states:
"REMEMBER / THESE MEN / OF / TINTAGEL / WHO DIED WHILST / SERVING / THEIR KING / AND / COUNTRY / 1938 - 1945."
The names of seven men who died during World War II are listed on an inset panel on the plinth below.
