Description
The gatehouse, garden walls to the southwest and north, and mounting block at Tintagel Vicarage date from around the 15th century. They are constructed of slate-stone rubble and greenstone rubble, with a rag slate roof that has been remodelled to create a lean-to roof over the southwest side, featuring gable ends on the north side.
The gatehouse features an arched opening that provides access from the road to the vicarage and the dovecote located at the rear. A chapel dedicated to Our Lady of Fonterrault was converted from the old coach house in 1925 and is situated to the right of the arch. To the left of the gatehouse is a low structure with a one-room plan, likely used as a store-room. The garden wall extends to the left on the north side and encloses the garden to the southwest on the right.
The front elevation facing the road has a four-centred arched opening with a hollow chamfer and pyramid stops, along with 19th-century plank doors. There is a series of square openings in the garden wall at the front and the mounting block on the right. The garden front features a four-centred dressed stone arch at the gatehouse, a partially reworked two-light mullion window and roundel to the left, and a 19th-century two-light casement window below a three-light cusped greenstone arch and casement to the right. The interior of the chapel includes a 20th-century stone altar and simple fittings.
