Description

The lychgate, likely from the 18th century, is located to the south of the Church of St Materiana in Tintagel. Constructed from slate stone rubble, this unroofed structure serves as the south entrance to the churchyard, cutting through a thick stone hedge. The two side walls feature benches on the inside, and the entrance is divided in the center by a low slate-rubble pier with a flat slate top that acts as a coffin rest. There are granite cattle grids positioned between the central coffin rest and the side walls. A similar lychgate can be found to the east of the Church of St Materiana.
