Description
There are two tombchests located 1 to 3.5 meters south of the nave and to the west of the south porch of the Church of St Julitta. The first tombchest belongs to John Marten, who died in 1657. It is made of slate stone rubble and has a rectangular slate lid that is broken into two parts. The chest features a marginal inscription and a verse in the central panel, both rendered in Gothic lettering, along with an inscribed floral pattern. This tombchest is signed by C. Luxon, dated October 1760.
The second tombchest is for William Gardell of Lower St Columb, who died at Trevill in 1821. This chest is made of stone and also has a rectangular slate lid. It includes an inscription in upper and lower case lettering with serifs, which reads: "This humble grave tho' no proud structure grace, Yet truth and goodness sanctify the place: Yet blameless virtue, that adorned thy bloom, Lamented youth now weeps upon thy tomb."
