Description
Camellia House is a pair of attached houses located in Calstock, dating from the early to mid-19th century, with few later alterations. They are constructed of stone rubble with brick dressings and feature a slate roof with ridge tiles and gable ends. The houses have an axial stack to the left and a gable end stack to the right, both with brick shafts.
The layout consists of No. 1 on the left and No. 2 (Camellia House) on the right. No. 1 has a two-room plan, with an entrance on the left and a front room to the right that is heated by the axial stack, along with a shallow rear service room. No. 2 has a double depth plan, featuring a central entrance that leads to principal rooms on the front left and right, with the left room heated by the axial stack and the right room heated by the gable end stack, along with shallow rear service rooms. Both houses are built against a bank at the rear.
The exterior is two storeys high. No. 1 features a half-glazed 20th-century door on the left and a 19th-century 12-pane sash window with a cambered brick arch and brick surround to the right, present at both the ground and first floors. No. 2 has a central half-glazed door with an overlight, fluted pilasters, and a Doric cornice with triglyphs. It also has similar 12-pane sashes to the right and left, along with three additional sashes on the first floor. The left side of No. 2 is blind, while the right side has a sash window at the ground floor to the right. The interior has not been inspected.
