Description

This is an early 19th-century limekiln located in Calstock. It is constructed from slate rubble and built into a bank to facilitate top loading. The kiln has a large, roughly rectangular plan, approximately 20 metres across, and incorporates a double well. It was positioned to allow access to a railway siding and Calstock Quay on the River Tamar.

The front of the kiln features three tall round arches with stone dressings and granite keystones, topped by a slate string course. A buttress and a 20th-century window are present on the left side, with two upper windows. Attached to the right side of the kiln is a small, two-storey building which may have served as living quarters for the limeburner and for storage; it has a ground-floor and upper door, likely a loading door. The interior is not accessible.
