Description

CALSTOCK SAND LANE, Calstock SX 4268-4368 9/141 Calstock Methodist Church II Methodist church. Dated 1910. Granite rubble with limestone and brick dressings. Slate roof with ridge tiles and gable ends. Plan: Single auditorium plan, with entrance on the front gable end and ritual east at the rear. The church is built into the bank, with a basement entered at the left side. Gothic style. Exterior: The front has a shallow porch with buttresses, Gothic double doors with pointed arch. 2-light window with cusped lights to right and left, string course over the windows. At upper level, a large 4-light window with ogee hood mould with finial, Perpendicular style tracery. Angle buttresses to sides surmounted by turrets. Raised coped verges to the gable with carved stone finial. Right side has 4 lancets divided by brick-dressed buttresses with brick eaves cornice. Casements in brick surrounds at basement level. Left side has the same arrangement of windows, with a central door to the basement. At the rear, upper level circular window with lancet to right and left. Basement has central triple lancet with single lancet to right and left ; brick string course continued from sides. Interior: Not inspected.
