Description
Westborough Methodist Church is a Methodist church built in 1876, designed in a restrained Gothic Revival style. It features pitch-faced stone with ashlar dressings and a pitched slate roof. The building has a gable front with moulded arched doorways on both the left and right sides, set in deep, chamfered reveals. The central window is a 4-light design with a large wheel at the top. Above the left doorway, there is a tall, square, three-tier tower that once had a clock on the second tier. The third tier has two slender louvred openings for the bell chamber, also set in deep, chamfered reveals. A corbel-table supports an octagonal spire with splay-footed ashlar and four lucarnes. Each side elevation has a transept with a 4-light window featuring a wheel, similar to the front. The side windows are small lancets.
Inside, there is a raking gallery at the rear, now behind a recent partition with a large arched opening. Similar arched openings are found on either side of the pulpit, with the right side containing the organ and the left side featuring a panelled partition with a glazed traceried upper part that also contains a large wheel. The interior includes polished pine furniture and a panelled roof that is closed at the collar level of the arched-braced trusses. The central pulpit has stairs on each side with turned balusters, and there is a similar communion rail.
