Description

This farm building, located approximately 10 metres east of West Tretharrup Farmhouse, is likely from the 18th century and consists of several sections that have been altered over time. It is constructed from uncoursed granite and killas rubble, featuring granite quoins and dressings, and has a slurried slate roof with three levels. The building has a linear plan made up of four small elements arranged along an east-west axis, facing south and set back from the road.

Most of the structure is two low storeys, but each section varies in height and is about two bays wide. The central section, which is the tallest, includes a doorway and window on the ground floor, a blocked loading door and window above, and a short chimney on the right gable. The west section, slightly lower, features a wide doorway in the first bay with a large rectangular lintel, a parallel flight of steps leading to a low loft door, a square window under the eaves, and a chimney on the left gable. The east section, the lowest of the three, has a doorway and window on the ground floor, along with a small square window or pitching hole under the eaves.

At the west end, there is a large lean-to with a garage door and a small window, topped with a corrugated sheet roof. The rear of the building has a small window on each floor in the central section, while the eastern element, which is set back, has one small window at ground level. The interior has not been inspected. This building is included as a good example of a multi-purpose Cornish structure for a small farm situated in an exposed location.
