Description

The railway bridge, built in 1838, carries the embankment of the former railway over a lane. It was constructed for the Tresavean Branch of the West Cornwall Railway. The bridge is made of uncoursed killas rubble with granite quoins and voussoirs, and features brick copings. There is a narrow barrel-vaulted tunnel through the embankment, which has simple round-headed portals flanked by splayed retaining walls that also act as buttresses for the high wall above, with brick copings. Historically, this bridge was built to serve Tresavean Mine, located approximately half a mile to the east, which was the third largest copper producer in the county at that time.
