Description
The pump engine house at the former Pennance Consols tin mine is a derelict structure, likely built in the late 19th century. It is constructed from uncoursed killas rubble with granite quoins and features a bob wall made of large granite rubble. The window arches are made of brick, and there is a brick upper stage to the chimney, which is currently roofless. The building has a rectangular plan oriented east-west, with the bob wall on the west and the chimney attached at the northeast corner.
The structure consists of three stages and includes round-headed openings, such as a driver's window in the bob wall, a cylinder door, and two windows in the rear wall. There are also some square-headed openings in the side walls with run-out wooden lintels. The tapered cylindrical chimney has a prominent moulded brick cornice at the first stage, though the top is slightly damaged. In front of the bob wall, there are remains of a shaft. While this site represents only the remnants of a small and unproductive mine, it serves as a notable landmark, visible across a wide area to the south.
