Description
Melrose House is a house that likely dates from the early to mid 19th century and incorporates an earlier building. It features a rendered exterior, probably on killas rubble, with granite ashlar quotas and dressings, and a slurried scantle slate roof. The house has a double-depth plan and is two storeys high with three symmetrical bays. It has an ashlar plinth, raised ashlar quoins, and a band. The central doorway has been altered to a 12-pane sashed window but still retains an overlight with coloured margin panes. There are also 12-pane sashed windows throughout, all featuring large and regular raised ashlar quotas and lintels, with those on the ground floor incorporated into the band. The roof is hipped with projecting eaves and has side-wall chimneys. The rear of the building is less regular due to the incorporation of an earlier cottage.
