Description
This is a dressed and painted granite milestone from the mid-19th century, dating around 1839. It is located 356 meters northeast of Merry Meeting Farm, adjacent to an unclassified road that was formerly part of the A30, set within the hedge bank on the eastern side. The base of the milestone is buried in the hedge bank. The milestone features a triangular shaft with a pyramidal cap, standing 71 centimeters (28 inches) tall. The panels on the shaft are incised with letters that are 32 millimeters (1¼ inches) high, which have been painted over to increase their size to 50 millimeters (2 inches). The northern panel displays the inscription "HAYLE 4 MILES PENZANCE 12 LANDS END 22," while the southern panel reads "CAMBORNE 2 MILES REDRUTH 5 TRURO 14." The triangular shaft shows some wear on the edges, is painted white, and the inscribed letters are highlighted in black.
