Description

The Cornish Choughs Public House is a public house located on Camborne Church Road, likely dating from the later 18th century and has been altered over time. The building is constructed from coursed granite rubble with quoins and features a modern pantiled roof. It has a double-depth plan and stands two storeys high with five unequal bays.

The left half of the building is symmetrical and consists of three bays, featuring a central doorway that is protected by a small porch with monolithic jambs set on low walls and topped with a simple monolithic pediment. There are two 16-pane unhorned sash windows on the ground floor and three above, all equipped with raised sills and splayed lintels. The right half has a central doorway with a segmental head and a splayed lintel. To the left, there is a two-storey canted bay with 12- and 8-pane sashes, while to the right, there is a bow window and a 16-pane sash window above it, both with a cambered lintel. The building is topped with gable chimneys and a ridge chimney at the junction.

The interior includes a rear room at the left end that features a large stone fireplace, which has a clockwork spit mounted over the mantel, operated by weights in a built-in cupboard to the left. Historically, the pub is said to have served as a staging post for packhorse drivers transporting tin ore to Hayle.
