Description
The Tredennick monument, located beside the south side of the tower of the Church of St Martin and St Meriadocus, is a late 18th-century tomb chest that commemorates Hannibal Tredennick, who died in 1769. It is made of granite ashlar and slate, featuring a simple rectangular shape with a moulded edge on the top. The south side of the chest is adorned with a slate panel that has an elegantly lettered inscription, which reads: "HERE Lies the Body of Hannibal Tredennick who departed this life Feb 12 1769 Aged 82," followed by a four-line verse in cursive script. The name is presented in Gothic script, and the entire inscription is surrounded by delicate scrolls and flourishes.
