Description
No. 18 Basset Road is a house, now used as offices, likely built in the mid-19th century and altered over time. The building is constructed of stucco, probably over rubble, and features a slate roof. It has a long rectangular double-depth plan and stands two storeys high, with a symmetrical façade divided into one large bay and three smaller bays, marked by panelled pilasters.
The entrance includes a shallow porch supported by slender Tuscan columns and semi-columns, with a deep frieze and a prominent moulded cornice above. The doorway is framed by an architrave of fluted pilasters, and the frieze is inscribed with "BASSET CHAMBERS." The building has 4-pane sashed windows with raised sills on both floors, although the second and fourth windows on the first floor have been altered with replacement lower leaves. The eaves feature a moulded cornice, and the roof is hipped with a shallow pitch, now lacking chimneys. The interior has not been inspected.
