Description
Rosehill-in-the-Fern is a house dating from the early to mid 19th century that has been enlarged. It is built of uncoursed killas rubble with granite quoins and dressings, topped with a scantle slate roof and featuring brick chimneys. The house is designed in an L-plan with a rear extension and stands two storeys tall.
The principal elevation, which faces south, consists of three bays and includes a first-floor band. Both floors have 12-pane sashed windows, all equipped with internal shutters. The main entrance is located on the longer east side, where there is a doorway in the second bay. This doorway features a reeded surround, a panelled door, and an overlight with diamond pattern glazing. To the right of the entrance are two widely spaced 16-pane sashed windows at ground level and three 12-pane sashes on the first floor, which are not aligned with the windows below. The roof is hipped, with chimneys located on the side walls of the front range and on the ridge of the wing. At the rear, which faces the courtyard, there is a round-headed stair window. Although the interior has not been inspected, it is reported to contain a fine curved staircase.
