Description

ST LEVAN BOTTOMS SW 32 SE 7/185 St Levan County Primary School, - including walls, railings and pump base in front GV II Former National school. Datestone 1849 on pump base. Coursed granite rubble and rusticated granite dressing. Asbestos slate roofs with projecting eaves and bracketted gable ends. Plan: Central schoolroom with entrance hall on its right; 2 flanking cross wings for classrooms and open fronted shelter sheds in front of entrance lobbies at either end. Exterior: Single storey unaltered 2:1:2:1:1 north east front with principal doorway on the right of the middle bays. 2-bay front of schoolroom is flanked by taller cross wings, broken forward, and terminated by two 2-bay open-fronted loggias in front of the lobbies which are set back and have doorways near the angles. Old ledged doors. Possibly original moulded transomed 2-light window. Interior not inspected. High retaining wall in front is surmounted by possibly original cross-braced iron railings and aligned with the principal doorway of the school is a dished vertically- set stone (for former pump) dated 1849.
