Description
The Village Hall is a building that was originally a national school, opened in 1841, with some alterations made in 1850, 1855, 1864, and 1902. It is constructed from granite rubble with granite dressings and features a grouted scantle slate roof with coped gable ends on the front return wings. There are dressed granite chimneys over the cross walls on both the left and right sides, as well as axial ventilators.
The building has a U-shaped plan, with a large schoolroom on either side of a central entrance, and identical classrooms projecting at the front ends. The central porch was rebuilt in the 20th century, and the window in the left-hand bay was restored in the 21st century.
The exterior is single storey and has a symmetrical arrangement of bays, specifically a 1:2:1:2:1 pattern on the southwest front, featuring a central doorway and porch. The left and right gable-ended bays are set forward and include central 2-light mullioned windows with top openings over transoms, all beneath heightened eaves. The original fixed lights have latticed iron casements, and there are two original 16-pane hornless sash windows at the rear. The interior has not been inspected.
