Description

The Star Inn is a public house, probably dating from the 18th century. It is constructed of granite rubble with granite dressings on the ground floor at the front, while the left-hand side wall is made of painted rubble. The upper part of the building is rendered, possibly over cob. The roof features asbestos slate at the front, with grouted scantle slate roofs elsewhere, except for a dry Delabole slate roof over the single-storey section at the rear right. The building has a tall gabled stack on the left, which is the original gable end, along with a brick chimney over the party wall on the right and another over the axial wall between the rooms of the rear left wing. There are cast-iron ogee gutters.

The overall plan is irregular and U-shaped, with two rooms at the front: a wider kitchen/living room on the left and a parlour on the lower ground right, flanking a cross or through passage. Service rooms are located in the rear outshut and in wings at approximately right angles behind either side. The eaves at the front were heightened in the late 19th century.

The exterior is two-storeys high with a regular four-window front facing northwest. The doorway is located under the third window from the left and features a ledged door. There is an early 19th-century 16-pane sash window on the ground floor to the right, with horned copies of this style at the ground floor left of the doorway and late 19th-century four-pane horned sashes on the first floor. Additionally, there is another early 19th-century 16-pane sash window in the left-hand wall on the first floor, to the left of the original gable. The interior has not been inspected.
