Description
St Erth Bridge is a road bridge over the River Hayle, rebuilt in the early 19th century, replacing a bridge from 1663 that was originally medieval. The datestone from 1879 likely marks the date of the westward extension or rebuilding of the parapets. The bridge is constructed from granite rubble with granite dressings and features iron cramps to the original copings. The design includes a 3:1 span bridge over divided river channels, with three spans over the main channel and triangular refuges on both upstream and downstream cutwaters. The ends of the parapets are slightly scrolled, and the western end has a wide single span with parapet walls extending along a causeway. All spans feature round arches, with old copings that are cambered and linked by iron cramps, while later copings are chamfered.
