Description
28 Church Street is a town house with a later shop, featuring an early 19th-century refronting of a 17th-century house. The exterior is rendered, replacing stucco on the studwork of the bowed front, which has a modillion parapet cornice and a hidden roof. The building has a double-depth plan and stands three storeys tall with a one-window range. The early 19th-century tripartite bowed hornless sashes include glazing bars, although the sidelights on the second floor are boarded over. The shopfront, added in the 20th century, consists of three lights with a doorway on the right. At the rear, there is slate hanging on the timber frame on the right side of the wing, along with a large blocked 17th-century chamfered stone opening on the far right. The interior has not been inspected but is likely to be of interest.
