Description
23 Higher Market Street is a town house with a later shop, dating from the 18th century on a 17th-century site. The building features a rendered exterior, likely over stud-work, and has a half-hipped scantle slate roof on the left side. It includes a modillion eaves cornice and a cast-iron ogee gutter. The structure has a deep plan that includes a rear wing and stands three storeys tall with a two-window range. The second floor has 20th-century sixteen-pane horned sash windows, while the first floor features 24-pane sashes. The ground floor has a narrow opening on the right and an early 20th-century shopfront with a splayed doorway to the right, complete with a fascia that has end consoles with finials and pendants. The interior of the shop has been altered in the 20th century, and the rest of the building was not inspected.
