Description

Church Cottage is a small house dating from the 18th century. It features painted granite rubble walls with dressed granite quoins, jambstones, sills, and lintels. The roof is steep and made of corrugated asbestos, which was formerly thatched, and there are brick chimneys at the gable ends. The layout consists of two rooms wide with a cross passage in between, along with a likely 19th-century lean-to at the right end and a 20th-century addition in front of it. The original section includes a wider room on the left, probably the original kitchen or living room, and a small parlour on the right, which likely has a shallow service room behind it. The left room has a rounded corner at the front, with both ground and first-floor windows set within this bowed corner. The building is two storeys high and has a regular but asymmetrical three-window front facing south-south-west. The doorway is positioned towards the right, with a window above it. The left ground floor window opening has been converted to a doorway at some point and features an early 19th-century 12-pane hornless sash window; above it is a 6-pane horned sash window. There are also early 19th-century 12-pane hornless sashes on the ground floor to the right and above the doorway, along with an older 12-pane horizontal sliding sash window on the first floor to the right. The interior has not been inspected.
